MEDICAL PRACTICE AND HOSPITAL SERVICES: OSTEOPATHS, CHIROPRACTORS, AND RELIGIOUS HEALERS?

Osteopathy was founded on the theory that most diseases are caused by a misalignment of the bones, and should be treated by manipulations rather than by other methods, such as the use of medicines.

Chiropractors believe that diseases are .caused by pressures on the nerves because of faulty alignment of bones, especially the spinal vertebrae. They, too, believe that diseases can be cured by manipulations. There appears to be little inclination among chiropractors towards adopting modern medicine.

Christian Science is based on the theory that ‘Spirit is immortal Truth; matter is mortal error’; consequently, evil, disease, and death are temporary and unreal. But to all doctors and the vast majority of people there appears to be abundant evidence that disease and death are very real indeed. It is generally accepted that Christian Science healers are not able to give the patient the care he ought to have.

Doctors believe everyone is entitled to the best that modern medical science has to offer. Although not every single doctor is as good as he should be, at least he does not shut the door on X-rays, on antibiotics and other new medicines, on vaccination, and on the whole field of scientific research. At present it is strongly recommended that you obtain your medical and surgical care from graduates of recognized medical schools who have been registered to practise medicine in Australia and New Zealand.
